I am old fashioned

I have already made a post saying that 2011 is going to be the best year of my life. That is also my new years resolution. One because I’m graduating high school (barely) and if you don’t know me, I’m not too fond of high school. Two, because after high school I’m going to study Show Production at Full Sail University, my passion. Thinking about my resolutions for this new year has also got me thinking about how I want to be as a person, and the impact I want my life to leave

On a side note, the other weekend I was driving home from Orlando after a long day of moving my sister out of her apartment. On the side of the highway I saw a man, who I like to call, not fortunate enough to own a home (see how I didn’t say homeless, the home is wherever the heart makes it, but back to my story) walking toward Tampa. He had a sign strapped to his backpack reading “ To Tampa”, the same direction I was heading. As I passed him it made me think how much of an impact I could have had on his day, or even his life for that matter, if I stopped and gave a a lift. What was this this guy’s story? Why is he down on his luck? Was he bearing arms? Not knowing the answers to these questions, I decided to pass the opportunity by. But it got me thinking about how I can impact people’s lives. So it lead me to write a list if you will of how I would like to be remembered and how I want to start acting as a person.

I have had this book called “The Four Agreements” for awhile. Although I have not read it personally, I know the four agreements by heart.

1. Be Impeccable With Your Word.
2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
3. Don’t Make Assumptions (I really need to work on this one)
4. Always Do Your Best

I thought this would be a good place to start. Anything that this list doesn’t cover falls under my other list (I’m an avid list maker). I feel I need to be more positive as a individual. I’m going to do that by cutting down on my use of sarcasm. In my opinion sarcasm is a very very harsh form of negativity. I’m also going to help out my friends and non-friends the best, and most I can. I’m also going to give out complements. I feel better when I make other people feel better. All-in-all I’m I’m just going to be a better person. Now my actual goals for 2011…

1. Become a better guitarist
2. Write a song a day (Not really a possible goal, but the point is to write)
3. Make significant progress or a significant step forward in my music career

I might not be able to meet each and every goal I set. I know I will fall back on some of these. I’m going to rely on support from friends to hold me to these. This gives me something to meet, a place I would like to get to, a road I’m going to travel down to get to another road with more goals. Until then…
